The best verdict of waterproof hiking pants is they make you really comfortable and let you hike even in adverse rainy condition.

This can be most helpful during summer hiking when the chances of rain are more.

The lightweight is actually a bonus feature of lightweight waterproof hiking pants making it comfortable.

Also, it provides ventilation and proper aeration.

How to choose Waterproof Hiking Pants (Rain Pants) for men? There are certain things that you need to consider while buying these quick dry rain pants.

The things that I have mentioned will certainly help you to choose the best rain pants:

1. Common Features

Now, let’s start with the common features.

It includes: Adjustable waist (for comfortable fit) Interlock lining (for proper aeration and ventilation for keeping you cool) Half leg side zippers (for extra comfortability)

2. Waterproof Rating

This determines the waterproofness of the garment.

It is done by the hydrostatic head test.

For the waterproof trousers, the hydrostatic ratings are at least 1,500mm but the rating can get high up to 5,000m when it comes to the proficient one.

3. Breathable Rating

Breathable fabrics present in the pants are porous to tiny water molecules that allow perspiration to escape.

These makes them breathable.

To stay dry and comfortable when wearing rain pants they should be breathable.

Breathing rating is from 1,500g to 5,000g.

4. Fabric Layers & Seams

Numbers of fabric layers directly affects weight, breathability, durability and waterproof property of the garment.

Fabric layers comes in 3 types as 2-layer, 2.5-layer, 3-layer.

2-layers fabrics consist of an outer layer of a coating and in some cases, a loose liner might be added.

Weather protection is same but it is heavier.

2.5 layer fabrics consist of a face fabric with a coating and a non-fabric material inside as the protection.

This design is the latest and provides good protection.

The 3-layer design consists of a face fabric, a membrane (with no coatings) and a liner.

It is mostly used by alpine climbers due to its superb durability.

It is the most expensive one.
